Strange Ideas About Treasure Hunting ~by Glenn
Carson
(from his article, ''How Others Look At Treasure
Hunting,'' from Western & Eastern Treasure
Magazine, October 2003)Let's face it, the majority of
people are not involved with treasure hunting. Indeed, most of
them have some rather strange ideas about treasure hunting, if
they even think about it at all... Tales of such activities
were doctored up in fiction, and soon enough most people
simply believed that treasure, all of them, were largely
fictional as well.
Frankly most of the treasure books
available to those hoping to find treasure are merely some of
these tales pulled from skimpy sources, put together without a
great deal of research, and as is — not too helpful to those
who read those pages.
More importantly, what most of
those who read those pages do not understand is that such
tales are merely starting places and almost always require
additional information to be of any real help.
You or I
may find a particular story very interesting, but if it is not
studied and fleshed out, it will forever remain only an
interesting story, not an actual lead.

Why have we included this excerpt
in this newsletter concerning the almost unbelievable but
extremely TRUE and well-researched Tommy Thompson saga? There
are a number of reasons, and a whole lot of ''ties'' between
Thompson's adventure and the realization of not only his own
dream but the dream of thousands of would-be treasure
hunters.
Two of the core concepts are 1) the existence
of a legend, a story, based on a piece of historical evidence
is not enough to call it a lead nor will it most
likely end in a successful treasure hunting cache retrieval,
and 2) a tremendous amount of reseach from a persistent
individual with vision, and a willingness to perform even
extraordinary amounts of research and setup can and
will make things happen, with greatly increased chances
that treasure recovery will be made.
Our precise reason
for highlighting Ship of Gold lies in these concepts.
This is not just an exciting tale. Thompson — as any of us are
capable of doing — has taken legend and stripped it of the
fantasy and the misplaced, incorrect ''facts'' that the story
picked up over the years. What is left is nothing less than a
BLUEPRINT for you, for me, for anyone truly DESIRING to
distill the true facts out of any given ''interesting story''
and turn it into ... a successful venture.
The benefits
to you in owning Thompson's story are endless. Aside from the
technology and history of this piece of history, this
step-by-step view of such a highly successful treasure
retrieval needs to be a part of your arsenal. Like many
excellent books, the re-reading of the book will reveal new
things with each reading, as you advance in your own steps to
a higher level of success in your hunting endeavors. We
highly recommend this book.

Highlighting A Waybill Reader — Metal Detecting &
The Internet
THE-GOLD-SCOPE.COM A Treasure Hunting Vision — Now A
Reality
Review by Leanne C. BoydUp until a few months ago,
William Belveal had a wonderful vision
for a metal
detecting accessory, and he had the prototype he'd built. But
he didn't have ''a plan'' in place. The Placer Gold Scope
2000 is an impressive piece of metal detecting
paraphernalia! It is a high-tech solution for an ages-old
problem, with or without a detector. HOW do you locate items
when they are at the bottom of a body of water? Whether
it is stream, river, or even ocean... the element of water
puts yet another difficult layer of disguise on hidden and
lost items!
When I first started speaking with William,
it was evident he'd done a huge amount of work on the Scope,
not just in building the mechanism, but also in doing his
research! He had already spoken with the patent office and
with the necessary ''legaleze'' — enough to know that he had a
lot of work yet left to do, in order to realize his dream
of making The Gold Scope available to the treasure hunting
community.
William contacted me shortly after becoming
a member of the Waybill To Adventure community, inquiring
about Web design — everything from the costs of taking a
business online, to his expanded vision for his device, which
had much to do with his life's history and WHY he was involved
in a treasure hunting field to begin with. There was a lot of
conversation that went on, in getting to know William and the
history of The Gold Scope 2000.
If the Web site does not
show as per this graphic, but the old site of gold fonts
on a black background — Please return in a day or two, as
we've had Hosting changes taking place and some viewers
are still seeing the old site. Thanks! You may still
contact The-Gold-Scope.com with the E-Mail addresses in this
Review. This was very important, as these
steps allowed me to become familiar with the technical
background of the Scope, as well as being able to view,
first-hand, the steps one individual has taken in the pathway
toward a business success. And yes, after these months of
working with Gold Scope issues... William's dream IS a
business success. As time passes and his Internet and
land-based presence grow, I project only success for this man
and his vision.
William describes his metal detecting
accessory in this way: ''It is the missing link for searching
in the streams and water along the shores with your metal
detector. Now you will know what your search coil has passed
over!'' I invite you to visit William's Web site, at www.The-Gold-Scope.com. I think you will
quickly agree that he has a unique product and has now
implemented a unique plan for reaching out to the
treasure hunting community. Sign up for his PowerHunter Newsletter so
you can keep on top of this exciting research and
development for The Placer Gold Scope 2000! You may

SOME UNDERWATER TH'ING RESOURCESIn researching both
the Ship of Gold book, and writing the Gold Scope review, I
ran into some very useful Web sites that pertain to water
searching. Please visit these sites, as they are packed with
info!
- Q's Underwater Tools & Techniques —
The photos take a bit of time to load, but this is a very
informative site.
http://www.gi.alaska.edu/~jesse/treasure/underwater/tools.html
- Hawaii Metal Detector Service — I am
recommending this site, as it is a real business, created by
real humans, using real metal detectors. Ponder and think on
this one...
http://808aloha.com/ring.html
- WHICH METAL DETECTOR IS BEST FOR ME — A
quite good review of detectors, with a section on underwater
hunting.
http://www.caravanandcampingsa.com.au/advice/008.shtml
- Professional Secrets of Metal Detecting A
Beach — ''Any beach that is, or has been, populated by
people is a perpetual gold mine.''
http://www.gi.alaska.edu/~jesse/treasure/underwater/beach.html
- Diving with the Fisher Impulse Metal
Detector — Good first-hand report by someone who is
really out there ''doing it,'' with some interesting
diving/th'ing stories.
http://www.losttreasure.com/fieldtests/LT941018.cfm
- In Search Of Spanish Galleons — A
fascinating history of Cortes and The Isabella Emerald.
''For adventurers Victor Benilous and his wife Sue,
discovery of the treasure was inevitable, but even they were
surprised by the extent of their finds and accuracy of the
psychic phenomena that led their expedition almost exactly
to the shipwreck.''
http://www.emeraldtreasure.com/search.html
- Treasure Dive Sites — The presentation of
the site is a bit BLARE-y, but the info is terrific. They
claim to be ''The Florida bible on dive & treasure sites
with pics!'' Good Florida reference site for: Treasure
Hunting, Shipwrecks, Archaeology.
http://www.treasuresites.com/
- Welcome To Tiscali - Search Locations —
Some very good info for underwater searches. This site hails
from the Netherlands:
http://home.tiscali.nl/~schulteb/uk-p2zoekloc.html and
Home Page is at: http://www.pinpoint.wolweb.nl/ A bit of
Dutch humor, but real truth nonetheless! ... ''First of all
you need permission from the landowner. Then, if you dig a
hole, make sure you restore it afterwards. Otherwise the
location looks like a Dutch cheese and you probably are not
welcome anymore the next time.''

QUOTE OF THE DAYWhen we are mindful of every nuance
of our natural world, we finally get the picture: that we
are only given one dazzling moment of life here on Earth,
and we must stand before that reality both humbled and
elevated, subject to every law of our universe and grateful
for our brief but intrinsic participation with it. (From
her biography of naturalist Eustace Conway.)
